The paradox of earthly toys

Why not celebrate and cherish life to the maximum? Why make it hard for others around you?

Have you ever imagined yourself as a toy of god? With that statement, did you just feel like ‘Hold on? You just read my mind’?

Or, on the contrary, did you take it as if I’m kidding around with such bizarre convictions? Well, I have had this sense of déjà vu many a times.

A large number of people believe that God is the creator, sustainer and destroyer of life in this universe. Lately, I have been a lot into spiritual texts.

While reading Srimad Bhagavatham, I came across a sloka which meant that we humans are the instruments of kreeda (playthings, or toys) of the gods. He puts a few of us together and takes us away from each other according to his will and wish. Doesn’t this explain how only a few people get to meet each other in life?

Some stay with us throughout our lives, some stay for a season and a reason.

During this short span, we enact our roles according to the will of his highness.

During childhood, I used to play with Barbie dolls. I was the director, cinematographer and lyricist of the play.

Every doll was assigned a role and I would make them dance to my tunes. Wait! Isn’t this what god is doing to us?

Another incident that I can relate to this, concerns my pet birds! I have been crazy about pets and bought a cage with the intention of owning a few birds.

I bought four pairs of birds and a few pots too which were fixed inside the cage for breeding-purposes. Food and water was supplied on time. Just when I thought everything was fine, starts the notorious territorial fights among these birds. As an aftermath of atrocities over territories, there were casualties and few of them died too.

Much to my chagrin, there was bloodshed in the cage. Shaken to the core with this scenario, I was seriously contemplating on ‘why they fight over territories in a cage? Isn’t the cage mine?

Didn’t I buy this cage from the shopkeeper after a fair bargain? Then why the heck do these cranky creatures pick on fights and ring the death knell for fellow-beings? Don’t you think even god would be having similar thoughts over the present state of the world? Does territory, religion, race, community and ego really matter?

He has put us here on earth for a while and might take us back any moment. So why make it hard for others?

Why not celebrate and cherish it to the maximum?  Why not offer a sideways glance, a fleeting glimpse, to the unseen love behind all things?

Develop empathy for others, take it easy, go with the flow and ensure an Oscar for your role when you are back to his domain.
