Phone gift

Even if the Karnataka Water Resources Minister says he paid for the iPhones — as a gift to each MP from Karnataka ahead of a meeting with the State’s Chief Minister — the point is is it a necessity? (“iPhones as gifts sparks row in Karnataka”, July 18). All the MPs concerned are sure to have a fancy smartphone. A public servant or people’s representative should always keep in mind that money must be spent productively. There is also the issue of ethics at a time when the State is facing financial crisis.
