Welcome ruling

The Supreme Court’s ruling to enforce a ban on unauthorised construction of places of worship in public spaces has not come a day too soon.

Religious structures are often put up for temporal reasons. Interested persons who want to prevent their landholdings from being acquired for public purposes are often behind the sudden appearance of such structures. Sometimes, places of worship are raised as symbols of domination of a particular religious community. It is a welcome ruling indeed.

G. David Milton,

It is a landmark judgment and a decisive step towards ending communal tension. In many government office complexes too, such structures are found. They too need to be removed.

To build a house, one needs to get the approval of several agencies whereas no such thing seems to be necessary for constructing a place of worship.
