Assange arrest

Instead of trying to shut down the WikiLeaks site, apprehend its founder Julian Assange and freeze his bank accounts, the U.S. and its associates and the other anti-WikiLeaks elements, should zero in on those who leaked the cables. The largest democracy in the world is turning upside down what it preaches — the freedom of expression. The cable exposé is ample proof of the West's double standards — on arms control, climate change, human rights violations and a host of other issues affecting the global order.

Mr. Assange's arrest by the British police, following a European arrest warrant issued by the Swedish authorities over allegations of sexual offences, appears to be a deliberate attempt to strangulate the freedom of press. It shows that the western countries are scared of more possible revelations. Let us hope that the WikiLeaks exposé will continue.
