Trump slaps tariffs on $200 bln in Chinese goods, spares some consumer tech

U.S. President Donald Trump escalated his trade war with  China  on Monday, imposing 10 % tariffs on about $200 billion worth of Chinese imports, but sparing smart watches from Apple and Fitbit and other consumer products such as bicycle helmets and baby car seats.

In retaliation, China raises tariffs on $60bn of US goods in technology fight

China on Tuesday announced a tariff hike on $60 billion of  U.S. products in response to President Donald Trump’s latest duty increase   in a dispute over Beijing’s technology policy.

The announcement followed a warning by an American business group that a “downward spiral” in their conflict appeared certain following Mr. Trump’s penalties on $200 billion of Chinese goods.

Infosys told to pay ₹ 12.17 crore to former CFO

An arbitral tribunal has told Infosys to pay former chief financial officer Rajiv Bansal a severance amount of ₹ 12.17 crore with interest as it rejected the Bengaluru-based company’s counterclaim for a refund of a previously paid severance amount of ₹5.2 crore and damages.

Kerala nun rape case: Bishop Franco Mulakkal moves HC seeking anticipatory bail

Bishop Franco Mulakkal, head of the Jalandhar diocese of the Catholic Church, approached the Kerala High Court on Tuesday seeking anticipatory bail  in the case in which he is accused of raping a nun .

In her complaint filed before the Kuravilangad police station in Kottayam, Kerala, the nun had alleged that she has been raped and sexually exploited 14-times by the bishop since May 2014. The police have issued a notice to the bishop asking him to appear for interrogation on September 19.

Russia says its military plane shot down near Syrian coast indirectly by Israel

Russia on Tuesday accused  Israel  of indirectly causing a Russian military plane to be shot down near Syria's Mediterranean coast, and threatened to retaliate against Israel for what it described as a hostile act.

Russia's Defence Ministry said the Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft, with 15 Russian service personnel on board, was brought down by anti-aircraft batteries of Moscow's ally,  Syria,  in a friendly fire incident.

IMF estimates ‘real’ depreciation of Indian rupee this year at 6 to 7 per cent
