Electioneering is picking up in Telangana ahead of December 7 Assembly polls.

On September 6,  the Telangana Cabinet Thursday recommended dissolution of the State Assembly months before the end of its term, a move driven by the TRS’s hope that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s charisma and a fragmented opposition will help the party retain power.

During the "Ying-Wang" festival, a series of ceremonies are carried out in Taiwan welcoming The Heaven's Envoy who is paying a visit to Donggang. The Heaven's Envoy is believed to give his blessings to the town and the people.

The ceremonies include the "Greeting", which is held on the beach. The "Fire Walking" is convinced to diminish people’s bad luck, and the "Parade" symbolizes The Heaven's Envoy patrolling around the villages. Last but not least, in "Farewell" a wooden boat is burnt, which means sending. The Heaven's Envoy back to heaven. This is usually the climax of "Ying-Wang".

The "Ying-Wang" festival this year is from October 28 to November 4.

Srinagar receives season's first snowfall

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday received the season's first snowfall as cold wave like conditions gripped the Valley due to continuous downpour.

The snowfall, which began in the higher reaches of the Valley on Thursday, has considerably brought down the maximum temperature in Kashmir.

All weather stations across the Valley Friday witnessed a drop of around 10 degrees Celsius from the normal day temperatures for this time of the year.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chahuhan's brother-in-law Sanjay Singh Masani joined the Congress Saturday, saying the state needs the party chief Kamal Nath not Chouhan as the CM.

Mr. Masani is the brother of Chouhan's wife Sadhna Singh.

He joined the Congress in the presence of its Madhya Pradesh unit president Kamal Nath and another senior state leader Jyotiraditya Scindia and said the state needs a leader like Nath not Chouhan.

Hundreds of advocates in Tirupati on Saturday demanded setting up of a high court bench in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh. BJP MP GVL Narasimha Rao expressed solidarity with the protesting advocates in the temple town on Saturday.

The Kurnool Bar Association and the ayalaseema High Court Sadhana Samithi having been criticising the Chandrababu Naidu government for the'injustice' meted out to the parched Rayalaseema region. The Shribagh Pact which stipulated establishment of the State capital in one region and the High Court in another region was being grossly violated, they alleged.

Divers reported seeing the fuselage and engines of the crashed Lion Air jet on the seafloor and a ping locator has detected a signal that may be from the cockpit voice recorder, Indonesia’s search and rescue chief said Saturday.

Meanwhile, local media reported on Saturday that the search effort had claimed the life of a diver on November 2 evening.

Voting for the bypolls to the three Lok Sabha and two Assembly constituencies in Karnataka began on Saturday, which is seen as a litmus test for the ruling Congress-JDS coalition.

Bypolls to Shivamogga, Mandya, and Ramanagara Lok Sabha seats, and Bellary and Jamkhandi Assembly segments began at 7 a.m. and will go on till 6 p.m.

More talks needed on economic aid for Pakistan: China

China will provide Pakistan with economic aid but more talks will take place to fix the details, a senior Chinese diplomat said, after new Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan met Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Saturday.

Pakistan's foreign reserves have plunged 42% since the start of the year and now stand at about $8 billion, or less than two months of import cover.

The Dominican Republic has opened its embassy in Beijing, months after cutting ties with Taiwan amid a Chinese diplomatic offensive that aims to politically isolate the island it claims as its own territory.

Speaking at a ceremony on Saturday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi says the Caribbean island nation’s decision to switch diplomatic relations to Beijing “serves the fundamental interests of the Dominican people and completely conforms to the trend of the times.”

Spanish rider Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar) set the pace on Friday in the second free practice of the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix for the first time in his MotoGP career.

Rins surprised all the MotoGP favourites, clocking one minute and 59.608 seconds at the Sepang circuit, reports Efe .

Rins beat his compatriot Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda), who has already secured the 2018 MotoGP title, and Italian Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team), who has won the last two Malaysian GPs.
