You do not have the mandate: Togadia to Mufti

March 09, 2015 02:25 am | Updated November 29, 2021 01:12 pm IST - Srinagar:

Questioning the release of separatist leader Masarat Alam, VHP leader Praveen Togadia said Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed did not have the mandate for taking such decisions.

Mr. Togadia said: “You [CM Sayeed] have the mandate to create jobs, revive tourism, spread education and restore peace and development… in the State. You [the Mufti] are in power at the mercy of Hindus. The people of the country will make you sit at home,” he said.

“Masarat Alam, who is responsible for the death of 120 youths in the Valley, who instigates youth to throw stones on our security forces, must be re-arrested immediately.”

Mr. Togadia had been denied entry into Jammu in 2013 for fomenting communal tension.

He was sent back from Jammu airport in 2013 by the previous government. He was accused of delivering an inflammatory speech at a rally in Rajouri district in 2012 and for stoking communal tension in the State. He was booked for “hurting the sentiments of a community.”

“He was sent back from the airport last time but this time, he was allowed. On both occasions, the decision was taken at the government level,” Jammu Divisional Commissioner Shantmanu told The Hindu .
