BJP president Nitin Gadkari on Saturday lashed out at the UPA government for its “all-round failure.” He accused the UPA of being “without leadership, vision, a sense of direction and commitment” and said this had led to policy paralysis. He was addressing a day-long conclave of BJP Chief Ministers held to take stock of the ‘grave’ economic situation, drought in parts of the country and how the BJP-ruled States were coping with the situation.
In the course of the deliberations, the Chief Ministers listed “practices of good governance” being adopted by them, which made a difference to the people in their States as compared to the ‘abysmal’ performance of the Congress-ruled States.
The inaugural speech of Mr. Gadkari focussed entirely on the UPA government.
“This government lacks political will to take decisions. The UPA government at the Centre is acting as a speed breaker for growth. The economic situation was serious. The Gross Domestic Product was falling and the governance deficit and policy paralysis were continuously growing and economic reforms and policy decisions being avoided.”
He claimed that the National Democratic Alliance had now become National Development Alliance, as three of the BJP-ruled States — Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Jharkhand — were among the six top States where the GDP growth was the highest in the country.
Briefing on the inaugural session, BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said the party would bring out a booklet highlighting the cases of harassment, political vendetta and step-motherly treatment meted out to the NDA-ruled States.
