The Army on Tuesday said they had killed two Pakistani soldiers in a “calibrated operation” near the Line of Control (LoC) “to contain infiltration” in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
“In a retaliatory action to unprovoked ceasefire violations and repeated attempts to facilitate infiltration by the Pakistan Army in Tangdhar Sector, the Army carried out calibrated operations on Monday night in which two Pakistani soldiers were killed,” said Srinagar-based spokesman Lt. Col. Rajesh Kalia.
The Army operation comes just hours after a soldier was killed in a “sniper fire” attack by Pakistan Rangers at Tanghdar Sector along the LoC.
A police officer said the Pakistan Rangers had committed a “violation of the ceasefire” and opened the sniper fire upon the Army posts of 20 Jat on Monday morning.
The deceased soldier was identified as Sepoy Pushpendra Singh of Mathura (28), Uttar Pradesh. Mr. Singh had joined the Army in 2011 and belonged to Khutiya of Mathura District, Uttar Pradesh. He is survived by his wife and a son.
The Army spokesman said Lt. Gen. A.K. Bhatt, Chinar Corps Commander, paid tribute to the deceased soldier. The mortal remains of the soldier were flown for last rites to his native town.
