The Telangana-Telugu Desam Party district unit leaders have threatened to obstruct the lifting of Godavari river water from the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project to the Siddipet and Hyderabad if the government fails to provide irrigation facilities to the farmers of Karimnagar district.
TDP district president Ambati Joji Reddy and district general secretary D. Praveen Kumar, Telugu Desam party SC cell district president G. Anand Rao and others visited the Laxmipur village of Ramadugu mandal on Sunday where KLIP package 8 works were progressing. Mr. Joji Reddy alleged that the government was siphoning off the water from KLIP through SRSP flood flow canal and Mid Manair Dam. to the Siddipet and Hyderabad denying the same water to the Laxmipur village, who have lost their lands in the project. He demanded that the government should create a channel along the gravity canal of the project for the filling of minor irrigation tanks in the Laxmipur and adjoining seven villages and provide irrigation sources to the farmers. He threatened to launch agitational programmes if the government denies water to the local villagers.
