The Temple Protection Movement organised Varuna Japam to propitiate the rain god, Varuna, seeking rain for the State as it has been experiencing a long dry spell.

A group of priests recited the Varuna Japam from the Taittiriya Samhita of Vedas standing in waist-deep water in Osmansagar lake adjacent to Chilkur Balaji temple.

TPM convener Ranga Rajan said many areas in the State has received scanty rainfall this season so far and crops in several villages have withered away. The Ritwiks chanted the Varuna Japam 108 times and prayed for good rain to fill all the rivers, tanks and water bodies in Telangana, he said.
