Two-wheelers, auto trolleys for fisherfolk

Govt. to help augment their income

Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao handed over 520 two-wheelers and five autorickshaw trolleys to fishermen at a programme held at the Sardar Patel Stadium grounds here on Tuesday evening.

The vehicles were sanctioned to eligible fishermen of Khammam division under the Integrated Fisheries Development Scheme, sources said.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rao said the State government has initiated a slew of measures to boost fish production, provide better processing and marketing facilities to fishermen for augmenting their income.

A sum of ₹36 crore has been sanctioned to the district under the Integrated Fisheries Development Scheme, the Minister said. Collector R.V. Karnan, officials of the Fisheries Department and members of the Fishermen Cooperative Societies were present.
