Toddy tapper dies of electric shock trying to save wife

A toddy tapper died of electric shock while attempting to save his wife from electrocution at Modugulagudem village in Yellendu mandal on Monday. The police identified the deceased as P. Raju, 48, of Modugulagudem under Sudimalla gram panchayat.

Sources said that Raju’s wife Sashirekha suffered mild electric shock while drying wet clothes on a wire tied to a rod adjoining an electric pole in front of her house. As she screamed for help, Raju rushed out of his house and pulled her away from the wire accidentally carrying electricity.

However, he suffered severe electric shock and collapsed on the spot. He was rushed to the Government area hospital in the coal town where doctors declared him brought dead. The condition of Sashirekha is stated to be stable.
