The terminal building of the international airport at the temple city of Tirupati is all set for inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 22, coinciding with the auspicious ‘Vijaya Dasami’.

The international airport project has a chequered history and has faced ups and downs in its short period. While the proposal got initiated in 2008, the past Prime Minister Manmohan Singh laid the foundation stone for the project in September 2010, but the project got dropped midway for various reasons and was revived soon.

The terminal, developed in an area of 16,500 sq.m. at a cost of Rs. 175 crore, can handle 700 passengers a day, said Airport Director V.V. Rao. Apart from Mr. Modi, CM N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister for Civil Aviation P. Ashok Gajapati Raju are expected to take part.
