Telangana State Information Commission (SIC) has faulted the Public Information Officer (PIO) in the office of the Director of Medical Education (DME) for his failure to provide information sought under the provisions of RTI Act, 2005 by a retired medical officer and slapped a token compensation of ₹10,000 to be paid to the complainant.

Stating that the public authority was oblivious to the suffering and mental agony of a retired medical officer, the SIC directed the PIO to make token compensation of ₹10,000 to the complainant within two months, submit compliance report on verifying the records thoroughly to trace the SR and other relevant records of the complainant within a month and to issue showcause notice to the then and present PIOs for not furnishing information in stipulated time.

In the orders passed on March 6, Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) S. Raja Sadaram stated that the complainant Dr. T.S.S. Lakshmi, who retired as Professor of Dermatology and Medical Superintendent in Osmania General Hospital on April 30, 2002, had filed an application on March 1, 2016 seeking photo copies of all pages of her service register (SR), information for health card and other purposes of service matters, copy of the proposals for revision of pay fixation and pension and copy of the pension revision order received from the AG’s office.

As the complainant did not receive the required information from the PIO even 30 days after her application, she made a complaint with the SIC on November 3, 2017.
