As part of its wish to honour the unsung heroes, the Sulakshya Seva Samithi felicitated five municipal sanitation workers, who collect garbage in residential colonies in Hanamkonda, here on Tuesday.

Sanitation staff Swamy, Saraiah, Komuraiah, Sunitha and Bhagya, who work in Srinagar Colony (South), were felicitated with a shawl, memento and a pair of clothes in recognition of their service.

Writer A. Naveen, who was the chief guest, appreciated the Samithi for its gesture. He said ‘Swachh Bharat’ does not mean posing for photographs for publicity, but taking up cleanliness drive with a serious intention.

Sulakshya founder Santosh Manduva said it’s the municipal employees who work round-the-clock. Though it was their duty, not many come forward unlike in the Western countries to do certain jobs.

“The Samithi wanted to make them feel proud of their job. Without these municipal staff, we cannot live in our localities for a day with filth all around us. It’s our duty to recognise their contribution,” he said.

The colony residents who turned up for the event appreciated Sulakshya Seva Samithi.

Samithi members B. Rahul, M. Rahul, colony president Surender Reddy, secretary Narayana were also present.
