In a unique initiative, the district police launched a door-to-door campaign involving NSS and NCC volunteers, carrying a message to nearly 20,000 households, here on Thursday.
As part of the ‘Mee Kosam’ programme, Superintendent of Police A.K. Jha launched the campaign where the volunteers visit every household explaining the steps needed to take to prevent thefts and other crimes.
About 700 volunteers, students of various colleges, were divided into 350 teams each headed by a constable, went around Hanamkonda city. They also distributed pamphlets issued by the district police.
Hanamkonda Circle Inspector V. Kiran Kumar said the move is aimed at creating awareness among the public and also to inculcate a sense of responsibility among the youth. Launching the programme, Mr. Jha handed over the campaign material to volunteers. The police department is making efforts to build friendly policing involving all sections of the society. Unless people cooperate, no programme or plan will succeed. We are trying to make people part of our programme, he said adding that a similar initiative would be launched across the district in a phased manner.
Hanamkonda DSP Shobhan Kumar, Inspectors Devender Reddy and Narender, KU NSS coordinator B. Suresh Lal and others were present.
