Pole climbing tests are being conducted as part of the process of recruitment for the junior line man (JLM) posts by the Telangana State Northern Power Distribution Corporation Limited (NPDCL).

The candidates, who have qualified in the JLM written tests were called for the pole climbing tests, being conducted at the SE’s office since Friday. The tests are scheduled to go on till February 1 and every day 80 candidates are being tested in two sessions. Each candidate is given two minutes to climb and touch the top end of the pole.

Incidentally, the authorities have taken all safety measures such as having the candidate wear a safety belt apart from having husk strewn around near the bottom of the pole to prevent any untoward incident.

Besides, a medical team is also available on the spot along with an ambulance. The entire climbing process by each candidate is being videographed and sent to the higher authorities in Warangal to ensure transparency in the recruitment process.

A recruitment committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of NPDCL SE K. Madhava Rao with two DEs Gangadhar and Ramchander Rao as members to oversee the entire pole climbing process.

The officials are verifying the certificates of the candidates before sending them to undertake the pole climbing test. Talking to The Hindu on Saturday, SE K. Madhava Rao said that they were planning to recruit 674 JLMs in the area of erstwhile undivided Karimnagar district. The NPDCL had invited the candidates who qualified in the written tests to undergo the pole climbing test. Every day, 80 candidates were participating in the pole climbing tests and only 50 % of them were clearing it, he said and added that they would send call letters to the remaining candidates based on their merit in the written examination to participate in pole climbing tests.
