Massive preparations are underway for the ‘Kanti Velugu’ programme in rural and urban district here.

The programme is being launched on August 15 across the State for which the officials held a meeting to review the arrangements. Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari, Tribal welfare minister A. Chandulal, Mayor N. Narender, Urban Collector K. Amrapali, Rural Collector M. Haritha and other public representatives and officials took part in the meeting.

Accordingly, the Urban Collector said the district administration would be catering to the needs of a population of 11,42,322 and constituted 23 teams to conduct eye screening tests from August 15 to February 28, 2019. The patients would be given free medicines and spectacles at the special camps in 11 mandals. In Rural district, Collector M. Haritha said they would be conducting special screening tests for a population of 7,18,537 in all 15 mandals. “We have constituted 16 special teams to conduct 225 special camps,” she explained.

MLAs Ch Dharma Reddy, Aruri Ramesh, D. Vinaybhaskar and B. Shankar Naik and others were present.

Mr. Srihari said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao was aware of the problems faced by the rural poor and had come up with such an innovative welfare measure. Many poor people living in the villages cannot afford eye test and spectacles owing to financial difficulties and access to the medical facilities.

“Now the doctors will come to your village and conduct special camps. They will give you medicines and spectacles for free,” he said appealing to people to make use of the opportunity.

He instructed the officials to ensure that every individual in the respective village gets the benefit. He wanted the officials to procure enough medicines and spectacles much ahead of the screening camp.

Minister A. Chandulal thanked the Chief Minister KCR for his idea of conducting eye camps which he said is the need of the hour.
