A day after rain pounded the State capital, high inflows from upstream areas into the Musi project in Kethepally mandal lifted the water level to 643.80 feet, just below its full tank level of 645 feet, here on Tuesday. And as a precaution, six of the 12 crest gates of the project were lifted facilitating 5000 cusecs inflow and 12, 000 cusecs outflow by the end of the day.

Forecasting inflows even beyond 50,000 by late evening, in wake of the heavy downpour the previous day, project Assistant Engineer Mamatha said the villagers downstream were alerted not to venture near the site.

Earlier in the day, flood waters inundated several roads near Pochampally, Bibinagar, Valigonda and Ammanabolu in the district

Several culverts in the villages of Battugudem, Rudravelli, Muktha Antharam and Bheemalingam were flooded, cutting-off villagers’ access to the main centres.

Officials estimate the flow would would consistently rise with water reaching in more by the evening, and said more gates would be lifted after reviewing the situation on Wednesday morning.

A cautionary alarm was issued in all the surrounding villages.
