Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao should stop hoodwinking people and start honouring his own words now, said Congress senior leader Ponnala Lakshmaiah here on Wednesday.
Speaking to newsmen, he said Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao went on record in Parliament that 1,300 youth committed suicide for the cause of separate Telangana.
After assuming power with the sacrifices of youth, the same man said only 469 died for the cause.
He also promised to build a memorial for martyrs, but forgot to do so. Even as the national crime records bureau placed Telangana on top in farmers’ suicides, Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao or his ministers do not find time to console the families or initiate steps to prevent farmers’ suicides. The ruling TRS party denied the distressed farmers financial assistance from Centre by not declaring the drought hit mandals till date. “What is the problem in declaring drought-hit areas? The delay is nothing but crime against farmers,” he said.
Mr. Lakshmaiah said the State government should own the responsibility for farmers’ suicides.
DCC president N. Rajender Reddy sought to know why more budgetary allocations were made to portfolios held by K. Tarakarama Rao and Harish Rao and not to others. He said the ministers and leaders of the ruling party were behaving arrogantly and belittling the opposition leaders.
“Once the nominated posts are declared, the TRS will be over in Telangana. Hence the Chief Minister is delaying the posts only to keep all people under his grip,” he said.
