Farm thieves nabbed

Notorious for stealing turmeric and red millet

The Jakranpally police, on Thursday, arrested three of the six-member dacoit gang which had robbed turmeric and red millet bags from loaded vehicles or kallams (crop drying places) in Armoor, Balkonda, Mupkal and Jakranpally police station limits. They also recovered an Innova and a Swift car and 15 bags of turmeric each weighing 100 kg and 38 bags each weighing 50 kg.

The offenders were identified as Abdul Ahed Saif, Shaik Sohail and Imran Khan, all of whom belonged to Old town here. The remaining three offenders Shad Man, Athahullah and Mohammed Abdulla Khan have been on the run, according to Commissioner of Police Kartikeya.

At a press conference here on Friday, the CP said all the six were habitual property offenders and had formed the gang. On March 20, at Munipally chowrasta in Jakranpally police station limits on Armoor road, the gang stole 49.5 bags of turmeric when Mohammed Nazeer, farmer of Sone village in Nirmal district was shifting the produce to agriculture market yard here. Police registered a case and launched a search operation. 3 members were nabbed during vehicle checking conducted by the police led by Circle Inspector, Dichpally, L. Ramanjaneyulu at Puppalapally crossroad on NH-44 yesterday. The offenders confessed to their offences, said the CP.
