The first day of applying for the new Telangana State Food Security Card (TSFSC) saw applicants being confused over the proforma. Apparently, the government’s message that application needs to be written over a plain paper has not percolated that well, especially in rural areas.

The photocopying shop owners were also there to add to the confusion by spreading the word that the application needs to be submitted in a given proforma. They made brisk business by selling the application for Rs. 10 each.

The applicants wasted hours debating over the issue of proforma. Those who wanted to submit their applications in a printed format supplied at photocopying units were not allowed to do so.

Confusion also prevailed in urban areas and municipalities over the place and officials to whom the applications are to be submitted. This prompted respective councillors to organise application receiving centres at different places within the wards.

Adilabad district has over 8 lakh ration cards of which over 1 lakh is said to be bogus. However, the number does denote the size of work which faces the staff involved in issue of the TSFSC.
