Conference on plant diversity from Feb. 4

Botany Department at the Kakatiya University is organising a three-day conference on ‘Plant Diversity: Challenges in Conservation and Sustainable Growth’ from February 4 to 6. It is being sponsored by the UGC, DST and TSCHE, Hyderabad, said organising secretary V. Krishna Reddy. Creating awareness among young researchers about the ongoing research in the areas of plant diversity, biodiversity, agro biodiversity, microbial diversity, crop diversity, environmental protection and forest conservation is the main objective of the conference, he said.

Subject experts from universities, research centres and industries would deliver lectures at the conference being held in eight sessions. In addition, 25 research papers have been selected for oral presentation. About two hundred delegates would take part in the conference.

TSCHE Chairman T. Papi Reddy would inaugurate the conference in the Botany Seminar Hall on Thursday morning as chief guest. Director General of Centre for Hyderabad Forest K.P. Sri Vasuki would deliver the keynote address. Former faculty member of the department and Mahabubabad MP A. Seetharam Naik, Prof. Khaja Althaf Hussain, In-Charge Registrar Vidyavathi, former Vice-Chancellor S.M. Reddy, President, Indian Botanical Society, would participate as guests of honour. In-Charge Vice-Chancellor of the university, T. Chiranjeevulu, would preside over the inaugural programme.
