Bharatiya Janata Party State president K. Laxman has slammed the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government accusing it of unleashing a ‘dictatorial regime’ akin to ‘autocratic’ Nizam’s rule in Telangana.
“A string of high-handed acts including handcuffing of chilli farmers in Khammam, brutal torture of dalits by the police in Rajanna-Sircilla district and repressive measures against students as well as unemployed youth in various parts of the State are eloquent proof of the dictatorial rule,” he charged.
He was speaking at a meeting held in Yerrupalem on Sunday en-route to Meenavolu as part of the BJP State unit’s ongoing ‘Telangana Vimochana Yatra.’
Mr. Laxman unveiled a memorial in commemoration of seven villagers of Meenavolu, who attained martyrdom fighting the Razakars during the Nizam’s rule in 1948, in Yerrupalem.
He also unveiled the statues of freedom fighters Jamalapuram Keshava Rao and Madapati Ramchandra Rao besides honouring some of the family members of the freedom fighters on the occasion.
Taking a swipe at Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, he charged the latter with extolling the ‘autocratic rule’ of Nizam and failing to declare the ‘Telangana Liberation Day’ as an official function on September 17.
“Instead of fulfilling the decades-old demand, which he himself raised vociferously during the separate Telangana movement cornering the then Congress government on the issue, Mr. Rao is showing reluctance to take measures in this direction,” Mr. Laxman alleged.
He demanded that the TRS Government celebrate the Telangana Liberation Day on September 17, incorporate the life histories of the eminent freedom fighters, those who waged a valiant fight against the Razakars, in the school textbooks and honour the family members of the martyrs.
Party national general secretary P. Muralidhar Rao, State secretary K. Sridhar Reddy and others were present. The BJP senior leaders visited Khammam, Madhira and various other towns in the district as part of the yatra on Sunday.
