The election campaign came to an end for Siddipet municipality on Monday.

Polling will be held on April 6 for 28 out of the 34 wards in the town as six wards had already gone in favour of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) during the withdrawal of nominations. Counting will be held on April 11. As many as 84 polling centres will be established in 34 wards. Twenty-two polling stations were identified as hyper sensitive and 35 as sensitive.

The campaigning was all one-man show by Irrigation Minister and local legislator T. Harish Rao. After over a month, he is in charge of one more election – this time in his constituency headquarters.

“I will be like your ward member. Vote for the TRS. I will address all your problems and take Siddipet municipality further on the path of development,” was what Mr. Harish Rao was heard telling voters during his campaign.

The Minister was also quick to mention the development that took place during the past few years in the municipality, the town being selected for ‘Amrith City’ under which Rs. 100 crore funds would be released by the Union Government for development, beautification of Komaticheruvu tank bund, development of Mother and Child Hospital (MCH) - as one of the best models in the State. The party already bagged six wards unanimously and is trying to get all the remaining wards into its kitty.

Lok Sabha member K. Prabhakar Reddy, MLA S. Ramalinga Reddy, party district unit president B. Murali Yadav and +Warangal Mayor Narender were busy campaigning till the last day.

Coming to the Congress and the TDP, it was clearly noticed both of them are paying very little attention to the elections. No important leader from these parties showed any interest in taking active part in the poll campaign. However, the BJP has been seen making some visible effort.

In a related development on Sunday, the TRS suspended 13 rebels from the party for six years for contesting in the elections.
