BJP urges EC to act against KCR

Chief Minister faulted for taking along several leaders inside the polling station to cast his vote

September 14, 2014 03:20 am | Updated May 23, 2016 04:57 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has faulted the Telangana Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, for taking along several TRS leaders inside the polling station to cast his vote at Chintamadaka village in Medak district on Saturday. The party demanded the Election Commission to take action against him.

BJP Telangana unit general secretary T. Acharya alleged that the ruling TRS had misused the official machinery in Medak by-poll. The language used by TRS leaders, including Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao and his Cabinet colleagues, was uncalled for and would definitely not help build the image of people of Telangana, he said in a statement.

The TRS had coerced voters with Ministers and legislators descending on the villages a fortnight before the polling. The Ministers camped in the constituency headquarters, while legislators took up the task of influencing people with an intention to win the election by hook or crook, Mr. Acharya alleged. Further, he accused the TRS of attacking BJP activists and preventing them from coming to polling stations.

However, the BJP was confident that people would teach TRS a lesson in the by-election, he said.
