Two Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Ministers K.E. Krishnamurthy and China Rajappa lodged a “protest” with Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan against the decision of Telangana government to create a separate Higher Education Council and sought his intervention.
Talking to reporters after submitting a letter to the Governor, Mr. Krishnamurthy and Mr. Rajappa condemned the Telangana government’s decision and termed it as unfortunate. They said the Governor promised to do justice. The Deputy CMs were accompanied by Communications Advisor to AP Government, Parkala Prabhakar.
Criticising Telangana government for not awaiting the outcome of the engineering admissions case in the Supreme Court, which is coming up on Monday, Mr. Krishnamurthy said it would further delay 2014-15 academic year. He said the Telangana government probably thought that common entrance test would be advantageous to Andhra Pradesh students.
AnxietyHe said they explained to the Governor that the Telangana government’s decision was causing lot of anxiety among students and their parents. The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014 clearly stipulated that common EAMCET entrance test must be conducted for 10 years and that the APSHEC should not be divided. But this was rejected and a separate council was created by Telangana.
He said the government would abide by the decision of the Supreme Court. He said although the Andhra Pradesh government repeatedly offered to sit across-the-table and find a solution to the issue, there was no response from Telangana government. He said the APSHEC has for the past many years conducted EAMCET counselling and did justice to students. The Deputy Chief Minister also faulted Telangana government’s stand on the nativity and fee reimbursement issues.
