Sufficient supply of gunny bags and tarpaulin covers to farmers as well as timely movement of purchased paddy to mills has minimised losses in inclement conditions, District Collector Anita Ramachandran said on Tuesday.

District staff of the Civil Supplies department has been touring villages to ensure safety conditions, she added. Assuring farmers that all paddy stocks, even wet due to the weather, will be purchased, Ms. Ramachandran said a total 124 paddy procurement centres have been operational.

Till Tuesday, she informed, 168791.640 metric tonne paddy had been procured and shifted. All stocks, till the last grain, will be purchased as per guidelines, she promised.
