The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) personnel trapped the district Panchayat officer (DPO) E. Somla Naik along with an office sub staff Sarangapani and senior assistant Mahmoob Ali here on Tuesday.

According to officials, Somla Naik demanded Rs. 2 lakh in connection with a compassionate appointment of a person called Ch. Ranjith Kumar in the place of his father Ch. Mogili, who died in 2010 while working in Panchayat Raj Department at Kamareddypalli in Parkal mandal.

Though the official demanded Rs. 2 lakh, Rajinth Kumar agreed to pay Rs. 1 lakh. Yet the official did not issue the appointment order. Frustrated with the DPO’s attitude, he approached the ACB.

The ACB DSP R Saibaba and his team laid a trap and caught Somla Naik red-handed while accepting the bribe. Sarangapani and Mahmoob Ali, who acted as mediators for the DPO and received amounts of Rs. 3000 and Rs. 2000 respectively from Ranjith Kumar were also arrested.

The arrested would be produced before the ACB Court in Hyderabad on Thursday, the ACB DSP, Saibaba said.
