Even 100 days after coming into being as a separate administrative entity, the Bhadradri-Kothagudem district continues to grapple with infrastructure deficiencies and manpower shortage.
Staff crunch is taking a toll on the functioning of the mandal offices in the newly-created six mandals – Chunchupalli, Laxmidevipalli, Sujathnagar, Allapalli, Annapureddypalli and Karakagudem – of the predominantly tribal-populated Bhadradri-Kothagudem district.
Several crucial posts, including District Revenue Officer, District Educational Officer, Additional Superintendent of Police, Bhadrachalam, are being held by in-charge officials.
Deputy Tehsildars are presently working as the in-charge Tehsildars on “Orders to serve” basis in several mandals, including Allapalli, sources said.
Shortage of computers and other requisite paraphernalia, besides the poor Internet connectivity due to low signal strength, has become a major obstacle in monitoring the movement of files and delivering citizen-centric services through online mode, sources said.
With almost all the new offices, including the District Collectorate, being operated from temporary buildings, a challenging task awaits the district administration in finding suitable government land to construct buildings for the government offices.
Notwithstanding the initial hiccups, several important proposals pertaining to road and other infrastructure development projects took concrete shape in the past 100 days owing to the persistent efforts by the elected representatives concerned.
The proposal to set up Greenfield airport near Kothagudem and works on the new oil palm factory at Apparaopeta in Dammapeta mandal gained momentum within a short span of over three months.
