Tata Motors has asked its corporate communications head, Suresh Rangarajan, to go on leave as sexual harassment charges against him started surfacing since Thursday as part of the #MeToo campaign.

“At Tata Motors, we have always striven to ensure a respectful and safe workplace for everyone. Any allegations are investigated and appropriate action is taken immediately. This matter has already been taken up for investigation by the internal complaints committee, set up as per law. Any such behaviour is against the Tata Code of Conduct and appropriate action will be taken as soon as the enquiry is completed,” Tata Motors HR said on the company’s official Twitter handle.

“In light of the enquiry of ICC, Suresh Rangarajan has been asked to proceed on leave in order to allow an objective enquiry to be completed as swiftly as possible,” the statement said.

“Allegations are being investigated and an appropriate action will be taken immediately as soon as the enquiry is complete,” it added.

The Tatas have zero tolerance to sexual harassment at workplaces and this step was taken in that direction, said the company.

In a tweet, a former colleague has levelled sexual harassment charges against Mr. Rangarajan, who has previously worked in Vodafone, Nissan Motors and Niira Radia’s Vaishnavi Communications.
