Woman attacked and robbed of gold chains

June 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:58 am IST - VELLORE:

Kasthuri (55), w/o Kuppusamy (65), a farmer of Alasandapuram in Vaniyambadi taluk, was attacked and robbed of gold jewels worn by her by an unidentified assailant early on Thursday morning.

According to police sources, after Kuppusamy left home at 4.30 a.m. to milk the cow, a male stranger in the guise of a woman knocked the door. Thinking that her husband had returned, Kasthuri opened the door.

The stranger immediately gagged her with a ‘dupatta’ and tried to snatch the gold chains worn by her. When she resisted, he cut her neck, snatched the gold jewels weighing totally nine sovereigns and escaped by jumping the compound wall at the back of the lonely house.

Kasthuri was rushed to the Government Hospital, Vaniyambadi, from where she was taken to the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital, Adukkamparai and then referred to the CMC Hospital, Vellore.

Initial enquiries revealed that though more than one person had come to the house, only one of them entered the house.

R. Tamil Chandran, Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Vellore Range and P.K. Senthil Kumari, Superintendent of Police, visited the spot and made enquiries.

The sniffer dog which was brought from Vellore could not trace the culprits. A special party has been formed to nab the culprits.
