In a direct retort to actor Rajinikanth hinting about his possible political entry, PMK youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss on Friday night said that Tamil Nadu doesn’t need an actor but a doctor.
Addressing a public meeting to celebrate the closure of 3,312 liquor shops “because of PMK founder Dr. Ramadoss’ initiative” in Mylai Mangollai here, he said, “In the current political scenario, Tamil Nadu doesn’t need an actor, it needs a doctor. In those days, people were uneducated and they believed the actors. In recent times, people have rejected actors who have entered politics.”
According to him, “outsiders” have ruled Tamil Nadu for much of its history but expressed hope that youngsters, who protested for jallikattu invoking the Tamil identity, will not allow it. “The youngsters now have a sense of pride. We have had a Malayali and a Kannadiga ruling us. Do we need a Marathi now,” he asked in an oblique reference to Rajinikanth’s mother tongue.
Anbumani squarely laid the blame on the people for the current political instability in Tamil Nadu.
He mocked DMK leader M.K. Stalin, questioning his recent attempt to desilt waterbodies.
PMK founder S. Ramadoss said that people were saddled with extreme corruption everywhere. “This is a State where a minister swindles money and keeps track of everything. Which ones to talk about, which ones to ignore?” he asked. Speaking about a possible alliance, he said, “We will join hands with parties who also want to get rid of the DMK and the AIADMK.”
