Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) working president M.K. Stalin on Sunday said the revaluation scam at Anna University was clear proof of how higher education had been allowed to deteriorate under the AIADMK government.
In a statement, he said it was shocking that ₹10,000 per paper was collected as a bribe from students who had failed in their exams to give them pass marks during revaluation.
“They have scored up to 70 marks [following revaluation] in the papers in which they had actually failed,” he said, adding that the “₹60 crore revaluation scam” had destroyed the credibility of Anna University.
Reiterating that it was imperative for the Higher Education Department to preserve the reputation of Anna University in the international arena, Mr. Stalin said a senior IPS officer should be assigned to investigate the alleged irregularities.
‘Constitute panel’
The DMK leader also suggested that a committee of Vice-Chancellors could be constituted to recommend ways to make the revaluation process transparent and protect the quality of higher education.
Already, former Controller of Examinations G. V. Uma and a few more individuals have been placed under suspension in connection with the revaluation scam at Anna University.
