Strangers visiting Old Bus Stand would feel that bus-bays were dedicated for parking of two-wheelers. But the fact is that unauthorised parking in bus-bays remains unchecked.
After the New Bus Stand was established, only town service buses were allowed to use the premises.
For many years now, problems like inadequate parking bays, absence of seating capacity for waiting passengers, absence of display boards, and open drainage and poor sanitation remain unaddressed.
An open drainage runs through the bays and bad odour emanates from it round-the-clock.
Due to tar-topping, the height of the ground has increased by over two feet.
But the width of the parking bays was not increased and hence buses could not be parked in the bays. Instead, buses are parked haphazardly on the road, leading to frequent congestion.
Since the bays remain utilised, two-wheelers owned by shopkeepers, officials and the public are parked in the bays.
Encroachments
Passengers find it difficult to move because of the presence of these two-wheelers, for the platforms are also encroached upon by shops.
The issue remains perennial now as no action has so far been taken to increase the height of the parking bays so that buses could be parked there.
Officials concerned remain mute spectators as the passengers continue to be at the receiving end.
