The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board received 190 petitions from 102 persons who attended the first open house session (OHS) held at its various offices on Tuesday.

Of these, 112 petitions were disposed of immediately by providing resolutions or replies to the participants.

According to an official release from TNPCB chairman A. Udhayan, the response to the open house session was very encouraging. About 52% of the participants were individuals, 30% were from industries and the remaining were from associations and NGOs.

Among those who participated, 42% discussed pollution related issues faced by them and sought action from the TNPCB and 23% sought clarification on the issuance of consent to set up or operate industrial units. There were others who presented suggestions on how the TNPCB can effectively tackle pollution.

Mr. Udhayan said the feasibility of conducting the open house in virtual mode would be explored. The TNPCB recently announced that an open house will be held on the 5th of every month or on the next working day if the 5th was a holiday, at all its district and zonal offices and at the head office of the Board.
