Elections to the Youth Congress in Tamil Nadu is likely to be held in August, its general secretary M. Liju, who is in charge of the State, said on Friday.

Talking to reporters along with Tarun Thyagi, returning officer for the polls, Mr. Liju said over one lakh new members had joined the Youth Congress and the scrutiny of their memberships would go on till July 29.

New enrolments

Inclusive of the new enrolments, the membership had reached around 12 lakh, he said. Mr. Liju said the State Youth Congress had over 13 lakh members previously, but the strength had come down because those who had crossed the age of 35 could not continue as members.

Impact in future

Asked why such a big membership was not reflected in the functioning of the party organisation in the State, he said it would have an impact in future.
