The Salem Railway Division created awareness on Swachh Bharat campaign by organising street plays at the Railway Junction here on Saturday evening.

The members of the Jaisakthi Art Troupe staged street plays that underlined the importance of cleanliness not only in railway stations and running trains, but also in day-to-day life.

A play explained how dumping of leftover food on the platforms affected the surrounding environment. Another play explained the importance of keeping the compartments neat and tidy.

Collapsible dustbins

The Salem Division has already placed collapsible dustbins in all long distance trains originating from the base stations under Salem Railway Division.

These dustbins have been placed in the vestibules of all the coaches.

Another play explained the importance of keeping the toilets neat and tidy. It called upon the people to use the toilets only when the train is on the move.

The Jaisakthi Art Troupe presented street plays at Coimbatore Junction on Friday and at Erode Junction on Saturday afternoon, railway sources said.

The campaign evoked good response at all the three centres, the sources added.
