Opposition leader M.K. Stalin on Wednesday urged Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal to hold the session of the House to discuss demands for grants for various departments, saying the State government had plunged into coma with the administration coming to a standstill.
Mr. Stalin, who submitted a letter to the Speaker, said he wanted to hand over a similar petition to Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaiswami. “I waited for half-an-hour but there was no response from the Chief Minister. So, I have asked my party MLAs to submit the letter to him,” he told reporters.
Mr. Stalin said the demand for grants for various departments could not be presented even though a month had passed since the presentation of the budget for the current year. “The session was postponed in view of the bypoll to the R.K. Nagar constituency. Now, we have urged the Speaker to convene the session,” he said.
‘Allegations proven true’
Pointing out that farmers in the State were going through a severe crisis and were protesting in Delhi, Mr. Stalin said the Assembly should pass a resolution to find a solution to their problems. On the developments in the AIADMK, he said the two factions had proved that the allegations they had made against each other were true. “They have come together to resolve their own problem. But they are not ready to discuss the pressing issues including drinking water crisis and farmers’ problem. The Chief Minister is not ready to meet us. How will he meet the farmers?,” he said.
Mr. Stalin said since the Speaker had the powers to convene the session to discuss the demands for grants, he had submitted a memorandum to him.
