Smoke triggers panic among passengers

Smoke emanating from a State-owned bus triggered panic among the passengers at Thirukampuliyur near here on Saturday.

The incident occurred when the Tirupur-bound bus from Tiruchi was going after picking up passengers at Karur. The driver, who noticed smoke at the battery shelter, stopped the vehicle along the main road immediately. The passengers got down in hurry. On information, the Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the spot and brought the smoke under control. There were about 20 passengers on board.
