The results of the Plus 2 board examination announced on Friday put the overall pass percentage at 91.3, a slight increase over the 91.1% recorded last year.
Students who took the examination in March comprised the first batch to have appeared for board examinations for three consecutive years, after the School Education Department brought in a public examination for Class XI as well.
Nearly 8.69 lakh students appeared for the examination. In a tight schedule from March 1 to 19, the exam followed the new pattern, where students were awarded marks out of 100 in every subject. English and Language saw students sitting for a single combined paper instead of two.
While students could check their results online, they also received their results via SMS. As has been the case for many years now, girls performed better than boys, with a pass percentage of 93.64 as against 88.57 recorded by the boys.
Tiruppur topped with a pass percentage of 95.37. Erode and Perambalur were in second and third place, with 95.23% and 95.15%.
