The Supreme Court Collegium has reiterated the names of two advocates — C. Emalias and Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy — for appointment as Judges of the Madras High Court.

The proposal for elevation of the two advocates, recommended by the High Court Collegium on December 19, 2016 along with nine other advocates, had been approved by the Supreme Court Collegium on December 4, 2017.

The Department of Justice had referred back the files of Mr. Emalias and Mr. Ramamoorthy to the Collegium. “We have perused the observations recorded in view of complaints making allegations against them. The apex court collegium, led by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, recorded that there is no prima facie substance in the charges and should be ignored,” sources said. Another recommendation was for the appointment of B. Sarodjiny Devy, a judicial officer, as judge of the Madras High Court has been remitted to the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.
