Demanding that toilet facility be provided in Gandhi Nagar in Ward 37, over 100 residents blocked the road near Dadampatti Railway Gate here on Thursday.

They said that they were forced to defecate in the open near the railway tracks.

They said that every month at least two men were hit by train when they cross the tracks to attend to the nature’s call.

They said that the existing public toilet for women was not properly maintained.

Sewage water was flowing on to the road as there was no drainage facility.

No action has been taken so far on the petitions submitted in this regard. They have blocked the road twice on earlier occasions with the demand. Now the road was being re-laid. But no drains were being constructed. They once again submitted a petition to the officials. Members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) too took part in the agitation.
