The Government medical college will be built at an estimate of Rs.250 crore in the district, said C. Vijaya Baskar, Minister for Health.
Speaking at a function to lay the foundation of primary health centre at Madhiyanallur near Annavasal on Sunday, he said the State government attached priority for health care delivery schemes and 150 primary health centres had been constructed. The Minister said the proposed medical college would be built at an estimate of Rs. 250 crore with all modern facilities and state-of-the-art clinical infrastructure.
The primary health centre at Madhiyanallur was a felt need of the people and would cater to the health care needs of about 5,000 people in and around the village.
Later, he inspected the special medical camp at the village. He said that about 500 persons were screened at the camp. The special immunisation camp has benefited 4,544 children, including 2,225 children in the Pudukottai health district, and the balance 2,319 children in the Aranthangi health district. This apart, 1,150 mothers had been covered – 568 in Pudukottai and 592 in Aranthangi districts. About 78 per cent of targeted children.
