Farmers in the district should provide Aadhaar number to respective Primary Agriculture Cooperative Credit Societies, as the fertilizer subsidy will be directly transferred to their accounts from June 1.
A training programme for officials of Department of Agriculture and fertilizer stockists was held at the Collectorate recently.
District Collector M. Asia Mariam said that farmers should register their Aadhaar number and give finger print at the societies on the Point of Sales (POS) device.
When a purchase is made, subsidy amount will be deducted and farmers need to pay only the balance amount to the stockists or the societies, she added.
The Collector said that in the first phase, 218 private fertilizer stockists and 171 secretaries of Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies have been trained to handle the device. Farmers can, however, purchase fertilizers only based on the land they own. A survey to assess the land and fertilizer requirement for each crop was in progress, she added.
