A group of members of the Erumasamuthiram Milk Producers Cooperative Society, Pethanayakkanpalayam near here, attempted to hand over milk cans containing milk to the officials at the Collectorate on Tuesday, to protest against the refusal of the society to procure additional milk supplied by them.

The milk farmers said that the society was refusing to accept the entire quantity of milk being supplied by them. The society makes it a point to return 100 to 200 ml for every litre of milk. This is causing much financial loss to the milk farmers.

When the farmers are already suffering financial loss, the refusal of the milk society to procure the entire milk has only rubbed salt into their wounds.

They also demanded the State Government to hike the procurement price of milk by Rs. 10 per litre.

The farmers, led by P. Jaikumar, presented petition in this regard to the senior officials at the collectorate along with the milk cans. The officials pacified them, following which they took back the milk cans with them.
