Thousands of people participated in the special mass with Kumbakonam Bishop Rev. Anthonisamy as the Chief Celebrant that marked the culmination of the annual festival at the Poondi Madha Basilica on Wednesday. Late on Tuesday, devotees participated in the solemn car procession of the Madha. The annual Nativity of Mary festival is celebrated at the shrine from August 30 to September 9 when Novena Mass celebrated by eminent priests would be held in the evening at the Basilica premises. The Basilica Rector Amirthasamy, Vice-Rector Alphonse, Poondi Madhra Retreat Centre Director Kulandairaj made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the festival.
