Police crackdown

Crackdown on law offenders continued in Kanyakumari district for the third day on Tuesday night. As many as 1,261 cases were booked for various offences across the four police sub-divisions on a single day, police sources said.

Cases were booked against 1,048 persons for driving vehicles without documents and fine slapped on them. About 47 were arrested for drunken driving.

Finger-prints of over 150 persons roaming in a suspicious manner in different parts of the district were recorded.

Raids were also conducted by the police officials in hotels and lodges and verified the checking-in and checking-out registers in the lodges.

Five accused on whom the arrest warrants were pending were arrested during the storming operations, a police officer said.

Vehicle checking was intensified in various parts of Nagercoil town, Parvathipuram and other parts of the district on Tuesday night. In Nagercoil alone, over 50 persons were booked for riding vehicles without documents, the sources added.
