The Periyar University here will soon get an indoor stadium for promoting sports activities among its students.

The University Grants Commission, New Delhi, has sanctioned Rs. 70 lakh for the construction of the indoor stadium in the university campus in the city.

The UGC’s gesture is following the presentation made by K. Angamuthu, Registrar, on the achievement of the sportspersons of the university in the various inter-university, state and national level sports events in the last three year, during his recent visit to New Delhi. In a press release issued here on Wednesday, C. Swaminathan, Vice-Chancellor, Periyar University, said that steps have already been initiated for commencing the process of construction of indoor stadium. The Vice-Chancellor expressed the hope that the new facility will prove a boon to sportspersons and will boost the sports activities.
